Hello! My name is Rebecca Garretson and I have been teaching in Winfield School District 34 since 2008. Currently I am one of the Learning Behavior Specialists (LBS) in District 34. I obtained my Bachelors degree in Special Education from Northern Illinois University in 2005 and my Masters in Reading and Literacy from Benedictine University in 2010. In May, 2014, I completed my English as a Second Language endorsement through Benedictine University as well. I believe learning is an on going process that doesn't end. I LOVE what I do and can't wait to see my students each day. When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family.
Hi! My name is Courtney Johnson and I am a Learning Behavior Specialist and Intervention Teacher at Winfield School District 34. I obtained my Masters in Special Education from Grand Canyon University in 2020. I also received my English as a Second Language endorsement From Grand Canyon University in 2020. I am passionate about helping students and it is a pleasure to be teaching in Winfield! One fun fact about myself is that my grandparents were deaf, therefore I had the opportunity to grow up learning American Sign Language.
Hi! I am Amanda Maletich, a Learning Behavior Specialist at Winfield School. I graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in special education. I began my career at Winfield School in 1998. I taught here until 2008 when I chose to be at home and raise my three children. In the meantime I also taught preschool in Wheaton for 5 years. I returned to Winfield School in 2020. It has been wonderful to be back! You can find me in the preschool or the primary grades working with a variety of students. I like to find ways to make learning fun! When I'm not at work, I am spending time with my busy family. I love to cheer for my kids at their sport games, go out to dinner, go for walks, and travel.
My name is Megan McDermott and this is my 6th year as a Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS) in Winfield District 34, but it is my 14th year teaching overall. I work with students ranging from 4th grade through 8th grade. I graduated from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA in 2008 with my Bachelors in Elementary Education and my Endorsement in Special Education.
I am honored to be the Winfield Central Soccer Coach and have won the Championship the last two years. When I’m not at school teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two daughters. I love teaching and being able to share that with the amazing students here in Winfield!
Hi! I am Cindy Powers, a Learning Behavior Specialist at Winfield School. Teaching is a second career for me. I obtained my Masters Degree in Special Education, along with an endorsement in English as a Second Language, in 2021 from Grand Canyon University. I have now happily left the corporate world behind to begin a career where I get to watch children learn and grow every day. Teaching is my passion, and working with the students always puts a smile on my face. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter, and three rescue dogs.
Hi! My name is Emily Schreiber and I am a Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS) at Winfield School. I graduated in 2009 from National Louis University with a degree in early childhood education. In 2020 I went back to school because I wanted to better support all the diverse learners in my classroom. I earned my LBS endorsement from Elmhurst University. I love working with students and helping them find that “aha!” moment. Winfield is a really wonderful community and I feel lucky to be a part of it!
