Mrs. Willix (Fourth Grade)
My name is Brianne Willix and I’m excited to be your child’s 4th grade teacher this year! This is
my second year in fourth grade. Before coming to Winfield, I taught first and second grade in
Plainfield School District. After the arrival of my second daughter, I decided to stay home to
spend more time being a mom. Once they both became school age, I started subbing within the
district and eventually gained my own classroom. When I’m not at school, you can find me on
the softball field coaching my daughter’s team, and watching them play basketball. I still enjoy
playing volleyball and recently picked up pickle ball! Needless to say, we are always busy!
Specials Schedule:

Tuesday: PE
Wednesday: Second Step and Art

What will your child learn in 4th grade?
Besides content knowledge, my intention is to build up every student and their love for learning.
My classroom is flexible and encourages students to try their best and that it’s okay to make
mistakes.
Math: Content will be taught through whole-group instruction, guided groups, and flipped
learning videos. Students will do independent work utilizing the Big Ideas math resource as well
as other supplemental materials. Some skills that will be taught/reviewed will be multi-digit
addition and subtraction, multi-digit multiplication, long division, fractions, geometry, and
interpreting data.
Literacy: We will continue to use Benchmark as our main resource to teach various literacy skills
including vocabulary development, writing, reading strategies. Instruction is balanced with
whole group, small group, partner work, and independent work.
Science: We use Mystery Science as our resource that aligns with the Next Generation Science
Standards (NGSS). Some topics include: Human Machine, The Birth of Rocks, Waves of
Sound, and Energizing Everything.
